Sandy Thornton

Director of Traditional Music & Worship

Sandra is a native of Syracuse, New York. She is currently the Assistant Artistic Director of the Cincinnati Children’s Choir, serves as the Artistic Director of the CCC Satellite Program, and teaches Vocal Pedagogy on the annual CCC Summer Festival Staff. She also sings professionally with the Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble, under the direction of Craig Hella Johnson. Sandra earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and her Master’s Degree in choral conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In 2012, Sandra was the recipient of the Joy Anthony Douglas (1956) Master Teacher Residency at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. In 2013 she was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association Rising Star Award and was a quarter finalist for the first ever GRAMMY Foundation Music Educator of the Year Award. Her professional affiliations include The Ohio Music Education Association, NAFME, and she currently serves as the Children’s and Community Youth Choir Repertoire and Standards Chair for the Central Division of the American Choral Director’s Association.
