Corbin DeSpain

Director of Contemporary Worship Music

Corbin DeSpain recently served as the Director of Music and Worship at LakeRidge United Methodist Church, Lubbock TX. DeSpain planned and led worship for the blended, traditional, and contemporary services at LakeRidge UMC. Throughout the week he conducted the Sanctuary Choir, Exaltation Ringers, and assisted the Associate Director and Coordinator of special music events to bring the worship experience on Sunday mornings to life. At LakeRidge, DeSpain also collaborated with the contemporary worship leader, worship host, and media teams to enhance the experience for regular attendees and guests. Corbin served as the staff liaison for musical guests including the West Texas Children’s Chorus, who are in residence at LakeRidge UMC. He proudly served as a board member for WTCC and for the Lubbock Chorale. Corbin has a deep passion for worship in all forms. He believes firmly in the intersection of honoring tradition and contemporary.

In February 2018, Corbin performed a world premiere; With Every Gust of Wind: Four Haiku by modern and Grammy winning composer D.J. Sparr. In January 2019, Corbin was invited to premiere the piece in Chicago, IL with the Chicago Composers Orchestra, and in 2020 Mr. DeSpain recorded the premiere piece for an album with Naxos and Innova recording studios on the album Hard Metal Cantüs, which will be released November 13, 2020. He was contracted in 2018 to plan the voice component of Ballet Lubbock’s 2019 spring production and previewed this collaborative effort with company dancers at the 2018 fall Gala. In 2019 Mr. DeSpain then premiered Dream Aloud: An Evening of Voice and Dance with Ballet Lubbock’s Company Dancers. Corbin has also had engagements with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra of Colorado, Chorus of the Big Bend and San Antonio Chamber Choir.

Corbin DeSpain is alum of Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor of Music Education with teacher certification. DeSpain currently attends the University of Cincinnati – College Conservatory of Music where he is pursuing his Master’s degree in Voice Performance.
