Matthew “Harv” Stricklin

Harv is enthused about coming onboard the EUMC staff August 1, 2020 and invites your prayers as he transitions into new opportunities of service as your Pastor of Care Ministries. Pastoral care and counseling in ecumenical settings have been the focus of Harv’s ministry since the 80’s after completing a Chaplaincy Internship at Central State (Psychiatric) Hospital in Milledgeville, GA and a Chaplaincy Residency with Emory University Affiliated Hospitals, Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA.

Harv served as a chaplain in the Ohio prison system for over 17 years and on July 1, 2020 retired from state service as a clinical supervisor and manager with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addictions Services. Since 2003 he was a part-time therapist with the Professional Pastoral Counseling Institute (PPI) in Cincinnati until its recent closure.

Prior to his focus on pastoral care and counseling, Harv served churches as a solo pastor from ’78 to ‘88. From ’98 to ’05 he served five churches in Ohio as an interim pastor on a part-time bases during his chaplaincy years. Harv is grateful to be able to serve his first love in ministry once again, the local church.

Some of Harv’s education and training include an undergraduate degree in Religion from the University of Mobile, a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, 4.5 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education, training and an internship in Spiritual Direction with the Spirituality Network in Columbus and a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from the University of Dayton.

Harv is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisor endorsement (LPCC-S). His ordination and ecclesiastical endorsements for Chaplaincy and Pastoral Counseling are with the American Baptist Churches, USA (one of the “Seven Sisters” of Mainline American Protestantism).

Harv and his wife Shawn live in Milford. Shawn is a RN at Bethesda North, a Healing Touch practitioner, and a soon to be commissioned Stephen Minister at EUMC. Harv has a son, Matt and Shawn has a son, Nick, a daughter, Holly and two grandchildren Nick and Kinsey who all live in Clermont County. Harv and Shaw have been members of Epiphany the last three years and consider it their spiritual home.
